Return Ticket to Antipodes

Framed Gallery, Darwin
October 2012

This series of paintings were produced over the course of a year's study at the Akademie für Bildenden Künste, Mainz, Germany. Within these works, the artist enacts the art of travel, taking on the role of the tourist who sees everything as an exotic object of interest. The paintings draw on the imagery of the tourist gaze embodied in postcards, souvenirs, travel guides and holiday photos. The work itself is large-scale and richly coloured, reflecting the cacophony of the senses that travel facilitates.
